Death & Funerals

Updated: Oct 3, 2022

1. Thank you for taking 5 minutes out of 1440 minutes of your day to read this article.

2. What's Worth Writing About today? Have you ever considered death, thought about it, wondered what your obituary would say, wondered what people might say at your funeral service, wondered what neighbors might murmur about you? Two public figures died during the second half of September 2022. QE2 and Man88. The ruckus about their respective deaths got me thinking.

  • Consider death, for all that will be said about you at your funeral summarizes all there’s to be said about your life; all that you’ve done and accomplished on earth.

  • Solomon said in Ecclesiastes… make it a habit of frequenting funerals, for there’s much to be learned there about life. “'A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume. And the day you die is better than the day you are born. Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies— so the living should take this to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time.' Ecclesiastes 7:1-4 https://my.bible.com/bible/116/ECC.7.1-4

  • Some make it a habit of reading obituaries. Sounds weird, but if it accomplishes the objectives laid out by Solomon in Ecclesiastes, why not.

  • Start to put your house in order today. For the day will come when you’ll be gone. Nobody knows when that time will be, but it’s guaranteed. Put your family relations in order, put your money matters in order, put your work matters in order, put your health matters in order [prepare yourself to die quickly or have a prolonged and painful and chronic relationship with death before it eventually takes you].

  • What legacy will you leave behind? Begin to craft and fashion it today.

3. Thank you again for your time today.

4. A dear friend recently turned 60. He doesn’t look a day older than 35. Congrats, brother! Question to the reader/Call to action: Have you taken a stalk of your life? If not, begin to do so IMMEDIATELY. You have no time to spare.
