Geometry Makes All Things Beautiful

Geometry Makes All Things Beautiful

According to Google “ge·om·e·try /jēˈämətrē/

noun

noun: geometry

the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs.

  • a particular system of geometry. plural noun: geometries "non-Euclidean geometries"

  • the shape and relative arrangement of the parts of something. "the geometry of spiders' webs"“

Strangely, I’ve been seeing geometry in everything. Sincerely, it makes all that I see beautiful. I’ve heard it said that God is a mathematician because all His creation has a certainty of scientific precision to it, even if we’re not able to verify it all. Must be true! Even though I was never particular about Geometry in High School, though I enjoyed the class (and fondly remember Mr. Fisher and his buzzer sound when you give a wrong answer in class); it must be true that God is a mathematician because I do see beauty in everything of late because of geometry.

(1) Tis Morning: Every morning, I wake up excited! Don’t know why, but I do. I look forward to waking up. [Almost like a new baby/child who is beginning to figure out what is day and what is night. When they open their eyes and it’s day time, they’re so happy and elated; you can see it in their smiles, eyes, and movements. When they begin to walk and are able to get out of their bed, they wake up at dawn at the first sight of light to come and wake you up, saying ‘daddy, daddy, or mommy, mommy wake up it’s morning...smh]. When I’m awake, I see beauty all around me. Sometimes, I start seeing beauty before I even get out of bed. From the moment I open my eyes, I observe shapes, light and shades defined by geometry. From the light coming through the window, through the door frames, to the shapes of the blinds, curtains, and so forth. All before I actually get out of bed. I get so excited and appreciative for sure. Then when I’m actually up and walking about, and I pierce out through my window, I’m in beauty bliss or heaven. The greenery, the trees, the colors, the roads, the markings on the road, the light posts on the street, the houses yonder, they’re all soooo beautiful! And even more so with the rising of the sun! From time to time, I write poems, especially when inspired to do so. As you can imagine, I’m inspired the most in the morning when I awake, and do most of my poem writings in the morning.

(2) Marathon Training: A couple of years ago, I took on marathon running as an activity. So on any given day of the week, weather permitting, you might see me out there training or running. The benefits of what goes into preparing for a marathon outweighs the marathon itself, in my opinion. One of these benefits is the beauty of my surroundings that I get to enjoy. Of late, I've been paying particular attention to the details that I see and enjoy. And yes, Geometry is evident in them all. In fact, it does make them all beautiful. The roads that I run on are beautiful. The sidewalk that I run on is beautiful. Geometry is evident in them all, and makes them all beautiful. The parks are delicately designed and beautiful - from the Lake to the basketball courts to the tennis courts to the baseball diamonds to the park benches to the strategically planted trees to the gutters. When I lift up my head while running, I still see beauty and Geometry at work. I see beautifully designed homes, driveways, cul-de-sacs, stores, office buildings, mini-malls, highways, the road signage, etc. I get to see the sunset, the silhouette of the sun setting over the mountain range; I get to see the sun setting and the moon (full or half) alongside it, the stars, the clouds consume the mountains, etc. I get to see deer alongside the road, crossing the road, the pattern of the leaves on the trees and fallen-off the trees, the varying shade and shapes of grass blades, and many many more beautiful things. Geometry indeed makes all that I see more beautiful.

All of what have you been seeing beauty in? What is the prism of your seeing or viewing? Is geometry one of them? What makes all things beautiful to you?

Quote of the Week:

"Working on a problem reduces the fear of it.

It’s hard to fear a problem when you are making progress on it—even if progress is imperfect and slow.

Action relieves anxiety." - James Clear
