The Holiday Season - 2020

The Holiday Season in earnest starts from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas and the New Year. It’s my favorite time of the year. It’s almost like sitting through an Opera or a Play, except the Opera or Play lasts for 2 months. My reasons are three-fold: sentimental, eccentric (strange), and selfish.
Sentimental
Sentimental because I love all the love and aura of the Christmas music and lights, and feasting, and gift exchange, and the entire mood of the holidays. Admittedly, the holiday season is much better than the rest of the year in that the community as a whole is a bit relaxed. No one is particularly tense. More focus is placed on the family and loved ones. The remainder of the year, as a community, is mostly about me, me, me.
Eccentric
Eccentric because I assume it is strange for people to comprehend how a holiday season can change my whole mood or ignite something in me. The truth is that it does, and I don’t know why. All year, I can’t wait for that Turkey feast. I practically eat no Turkey all year until Thanksgiving day. All year, I can’t wait till I start hearing Christmas music playing everywhere starting November through December. Then of course the Christmas lights show up after Thanksgiving Day. Eccentric, yes, but I consider it a pleasure to be alive and enjoying such moments of life.
Selfish
Selfish because I have a Thanksgiving baby (child) and a Christmas baby (child). Even though their birthdays are celebrated around the same time as Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they complain about not getting extra gifts or attention, I consider them a gift on such special occasions. I consider myself blessed that God will give me children on my two favorite holidays. Gives the holidays a whole new meaning. Didn’t know the kids would be so much work...lol. But grateful to God for them.
What’s your favorite part of the holidays? Do you celebrate it at all? Which ones do you observe? Any family traditions to share?
